“The Force Behind the Mask!”
Teddy James Perkins better known as T.J. Perkins is a professional wrestler currently signed to TNA Wrestling and is the current reigning X-Division champion.
T.J. Perkins or TJP, begins his wrestling training at the young age of 13 at a local Lucha Libre school in his hometown at Los Angeles, California. A year later in January 1999 he debuted wearing a mask, as promoters felt he looked too young to be wrestling. At that time, he initially wrestled under the ring name T.J. Perkins with “Pinoy Boy” as his monicker. He spent two years wrestling on areas at California, Arizona, Nevada and Mexico during his first two years. After his training at the New Japan Dojo in Los Angeles together with friends Rocky Romero, Ricky Reyes and Bryan Danielson, they had their debut in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) on the Korakuen Hall card in October 2002 this time he came out as the maskless “Pinoy Boy” T.J. Perkins, thereby holding a distinction of being the youngest non-Japanese wrestler to compete for that promotion at the age of 18. The following year on his third tour with NJPW, he has been given the gimmick character “Puma”, a masked wrestler with similarities to the famed
Tiger Mask where he also began teaming with Tiger Mask IV. Aside from competing on Japan he had also competed for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) as “Pinoy Boy” T.J. Perkins.
On December 2003, Perkins debuted in Ring of Honor (ROH) as Puma with a losing effort against Josh Daniels. It was on February 2007 where he has competed under his real name with a lose to Nigel McGuiness. After further losses in October 2007, he gained his first victory in ROH by defeating Kyle O’Reilly in the Tag Title Classic II held in December 2010. Aside from competing on the indepedent circuits, TJP has made sporadic appearances on TNA as Puma in 2004,2006 to 2009. On May 23, 2013, TJP wrestled on Impact Wrestling as Suicide defeating Joey Ryan and the returning Petey Williams. This win earned him an X Division match against Kenny King and Chris Sabin at Slammiversary XI in an Ultimate X match which was won by Sabin. On the 27th of June episode of Impact Wrestling, Perkins was revealed as the man behind the mask of Suicide due to an earlier attacked and the costume being taken and used with the attacker, being Austin Aries as revealed later on as part of the latter’s strategy to shortcut his way to a World Heavyweight title contention. It was on the July 4 episode of Impact where Perkins has been given the name Manik using a modified version of the Suicide costume. After the X-Division title was vacated by Sabin, after cashing it in favor of a shot at a World Heavyweight Championship. Following that development a tournament was held to determine a new X-Division champion where Manik entered and advanced to the final by defeating Chavo Guerrero and Kenny King. On the July 25th episode of Impact Wrestling, Manik won the vacant X-Division Championship by besting Sonjay Dutt and Greg Marascioulo on a three-way Ultimate X match.
