On the January 4, 2010, live-three hour, Monday night edition of Impact! Sting returned to the Impact! Zone appearing in the rafters of the arena. Sting reappeared two months later on March 8, appearing as he was going to help a bloodied Hulk Hogan and Abyss during a match at the beginning of the show against A.J. Styles and Ric Flair. Instead he swung his baseball bat on Hogan and Abyss, turning him heel in the process. He was later defeated by the debuting Rob Van Dam, but Sting would solidify his status as a heel by brutally attacking RVD after the match. On the March 22 edition of Impact! Sting was announced as the captain of Team Flair in the annual Lethal Lockdown match, where they would meet Team Hogan, captained by Abyss. At Lockdown Team Flair (Sting, Desmond Wolfe, Robert Roode and James Storm) literally destroyed team Hogan before eventually defeated by Team Hogan (Abyss, Jeff Jarrett, Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy) in the end.
On May 3, 2010, Sting appeared on the Impact zone as Hulk Hogan demands an answer to why he’s been on a rampage attacking anybody without explaining the why’s, it was later on that Jeff Jarrett came out and attack him from behind. On TNA’s recently held Pay-Per-View Sacrifice, The Icon Sting assaulted Jarrett prior to their match and then dragged him in to the ring, where he managed to score an easy pin fall in seconds over his bloodied opponent. On the following edition of Impact! as the TNA Championship Committee decided and Eric Bischoff reveals that Sting is the number one in the rankings thereby granting him a shot at Rob Van Dam’s World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View Slammiversary VIII.

This is so far the best heel turn that Sting has been to, well at least in my opinion. Been a huge Sting fan ever since and a full pledge turn to the dark side really added a new depth to his character. He has been a solid singles competitor most of his career and a bad ass Stinger really excites me more this time watching how the match would turn out. With the upcoming match pitting him against a top caliber superstar like RVD seems to be an epic match waiting to happen.

Here’s what other Stinger’s had to say (lifted from WrestlingForum.com/”RVD Vs A Heel Sting A PPV Blockbuster Waiting To Happen?”)
” I’m a huge Sting mark, he’s been my favorite wrestler of ALL time since I can remember. Absolutely LOVED the heel turn. Like the original poster noted, I squealed with excitement big time and there is ABSOLUTELY so much they can do with a heel Sting gimmick and Angle. I’m glad it wasn’t the same ‘ol same ‘ol Sting coming in and saving the day. I’m still marking out actually.
Sting/RVD.. same ring. Come on, it can’t get any better.”

“When Sting turned heel it was so EPIC on so many levels, TNA has built a massive amount of momentum with the heel turn. It has opened up so many doors, i’m especially loving the RVD and Sting. Its going to be a great feud.
TNA has opened many doors and cliff hangers for next weeks, Its really going to be a good year for wrestling!”

“Sting brought it tonight, I don’t know who pepped talked him or what but he knew what he had to do to turn the crowd on him for once. And if that malicious attack with the bat didn’t cement his heel turn I don’t know what would.”
